Woman's Position


The writer applies qualitative research as her approach to answer the research questions. The writer also applies content analysis as her method in analyzing the data. She collects the data through several steps. The steps are reading the novel and finally identifying the woman’s position. Then, she describes how woman position can be different. Finally, she explains why the differences of woman’s position happen.

After analyzing the data, the writer finds that woman in the family have five positions as the controller of womb, cradle, kitchen, the husband’s needs and the relatives’ needs Woman in the clan has four positions. They are woman is precious, supreme, powerful and weak. The differences lie on the man’s appreciation toward woman, woman’s duties, woman’s power, woman’s knowledge and woman’s potency. The differences above are caused by woman’s destiny, the demand, and the social opinion.

Based on the findings, the African’s woman in the family has different positions from African woman in the clan. The differences depend on several aspects as mentioned before. It is caused by several factors which are culturally bound. However woman is still able to run their different position without ignoring another position because of cultural awareness.
